Overview
(~2 minutes)

Welcome.

Whether you're a Native parent, a caregiver, or someone supporting Native children
on their journey, this training is for you.

This is Positive Indigenous Parenting, a culturally rooted curriculum developed by the National
Indian Child Welfare Association. It’s a guide, a conversation, and a celebration of parenting the
Native way—honoring the strengths, stories, and values that have shaped our communities for
generations.

Built on the wisdom of Tribal elders, Native parents, and child welfare experts, this curriculum
reconnects us with traditional child-rearing practices—blending ancient teachings with today’s
realities. Through storytelling, harmony, praise, and reflection, Positive Indigenous Parenting
helps us reclaim our role as the first and most important teachers in a child’s life.

This training invites you to explore the beauty of Indigenous parenting values. You’ll discover how to support the well-being of Native children in your care, while respecting the rich cultural heritage that surrounds them.

Each session is designed to be flexible and reflective—filled with opportunities for discussion,
sharing, and personal growth. This is not a one-size-fits-all approach. It’s a customizable
journey, meant to adapt to the unique strengths and needs of every family and community.

Over the next eight sessions, we’ll explore the positive traditions that have nurtured Native
children for centuries and that continue to guide us in raising strong, proud, and connected
generations.

Let’s begin this journey with open hearts, ready to learn from the past, connect in the present,
and plant seeds for the future.

Let's begin.
